Banarasi Mor Anarkali

There is a particular hour in Varanasi, just before the muezzin’s call meets the temple bells, when the looms along the narrow bylanes of the city begin their work for the day. It is here, in workshops that have stood for generations, that this anarkali was born.

The fabric is georgette — chosen for one reason: it moves the way memory does. Light, fluid, never still. But it’s the border that tells the real story. Woven in pure zari, it carries the peacock — a motif Banarasi weavers have repeated for centuries, not because it’s beautiful (though it is), but because it has always meant abundance, grace, the arrival of something good.
