Basant · Lucknowi Chikankari · Mustard Yellow · Anarkali · Uttar Pradesh · In the old lanes of Chowk in Lucknow, women have been threading white cotton through yellow cloth since the time of the Nawabs. No dye. No mirror. No zari. Just a needle, a steady hand, and a pattern passed from mother to daughter across two hundred years. This is Chikankari  and Basant is its most joyful expression. Mustard yellow cotton that carries the warmth of a February morning in Awadh, when the mustard fields outside the city turn the entire horizon gold. The yoke is worked in a dense floral jaal — vines and petals and leaves so closely embroidered they seem to grow out of the fabric itself. Scattered butis drift down the length of the anarkali, each one hand-stitched, no two placed exactly the same. The hem and cuffs are finished in white crochet lace — a Lucknowi detail, delicate and precise, the kind of finishing that takes longer than the garment itself. The dupatta is the same mustard cotton, unembroidered, so that nothing competes with the kurta’s needlework. The silhouette is anarkali — gathered at the waist, flaring toward the hem — the shape that Lucknow’s courtesans made iconic and Lucknow’s craftswomen made eternal. This is not a loud piece. It does not announce itself. It is the kind of dressing that people notice slowly, then cannot stop looking at. · The Set Includes: Kurta · Salwar · Dupatta · Craft: Lucknowi Chikankari hand embroidery · Crochet lace hem and cuffs · Scattered buti detailing · Origin: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India · Each SURYAAT piece is handcrafted. Variations in embroidery placement are a mark of the hand that made it.
